Lean Certificate Series
Cost: $1,295/seat

DATES:

LCS #1 Feb. 2-6, 2009

LCS #2 May 4-8, 2009

LCS #3 June 22-26, 2009

LCS #4 Oct. 5-9, 2009

Continuing Education Credit Applies to this Course

DESCRIPTION:

ATAC is offering four sessions of the Lean Certificate Series during 2009.

Learn to produce more and be more efficient by eliminating non-value-added activities. Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste through continuous improvement techniques. Lean training is for managers, supervisors, plant managers, team leaders, manufacturing engineers and floor/process personnel. This course involves classroom and practical hands-on simulation training.

WHAT THE COURSE COVERS:

Principles of Lean: A full day of classroom instruction and hands-on exercises in a manufacturing simulation that promotes continuous improvement. Participants are introduced to standardized work, workplace organization, visual controls, set-up reduction, batch size reduction, point of use storage, quality at the source, and workforce practices and pull systems.

Value Stream Mapping & 5s: The VSM process consists of identifying value streams/product groups, mapping a current state of material and information flow, assessing waste in the process, and designing an improved process. The 5s system of waste reduction (sort, set-in-order, shine, standardize, and sustain) is the basis of making these improvements.

TPM & Quick Changeover: TPM is a Lean-based system applied to equipment maintenance. It focuses on a life-cycle approach using teams to improve availability, performance and quality of critical machines. The four-step changeover improvement process is based on the principals of the Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) system, developed by Shigeo Shingo, to dramatically reduce or eliminate changeover time.

Pull/Kanban Systems & Cellular Flow: Pull/Kanban is based on the concept of building products based on actual consumption. The system uses visual signals when parts need to be replaced. Participants learn how to control shop floor inventory and production schedules by implementing pull systems. Cellular Flow is the linking of manual and machine operations into the most efficient combination of resources to maximize value-added content while minimizing waste.

Sustaining Lean: The Lean process must be sustained by management and permeated throughout the organization as a cultural way of doing business. Sustaining Lean teaches how to instill the lean philosophy and techniques into the workforce and prepares Lean leaders to foster the sustained process of continuous improvement.

Lean Office
Cost: $495/seat

DATES:

LO #1: March 10, 2009

LO #2: Sept. 15, 2009

Continuing Education Credit Applies to this Course

DESCRIPTION:

ATAC is offering two sessions of Lean Office during 2009.

Apply lean tools to improving the efficiency of the office environment. Only about 20% of total lead time results from manufacturing activities. In a Lean manufacturing environment, administrative functions also need to be efficient and free of waste and non-value-added activities in the process. Through training in Lean Office, participants gain hands on experience through a live simulation in a traditional office environment to apply these principles to the office environment using typical simulated office equipment, supplies, forms, and procedures. By days end, each person will gain a practical understanding of how “Lean” continuous improvement techniques can be applied to the office to eliminate waste, gain more capacity from existing operations, and enhance your company’s ability to compete.

Clkck here for "AU Football Illustrated" feature on ATAC's work with companies in TWI. (printable pdf)

ATAC is offering two sessions of TWI during 2009.

TWI includes three modules of training that teach basic skills to help supervisors and other employees function successfully in a learning organization. TWI contains the basic skills that will help enable supervisors and other employees to make the transition from hierarchical "command & control" organizations to flatter, team oriented organizations.

Each TWI course module is structured as five two-hour sessions with 8 - 10 trainees.

Job Methods (JM): JM teaches employees how to improve the way jobs are done. The aim of the program is to help produce greater quantities of quality products in less time by making the best use of the manpower, machines, and materials now available.

Job Instruction (JI): The objective of the course is to train employees how to teach someone a job or method. The method emphasizes preparing the operator to learn, giving a proper demonstration while identifying the Important Steps and the Key Points of the job, having the operator perform a trial run, and tapering off coaching while continuing to follow up.

Job Relations (JR): This course teaches employees how to understand people on all levels and deals with the issues of motivation and problem solving. The course gives employees foundations for developing and maintaining good relations in order to prevent problems from arising. However, when problems do arise, it teaches how to get the facts, weigh and decide, take action, and check results.
